Item 3 Crime Report

Each month the Salt Lake City Police Department prepares a report of criminal activity for each Community Council area. Statistics show that crime is lowered in part, due to good citizens keeping a watchful eye on our homes and streets and reporting concerns to our SLC Police officers in a timely way.

The total offenses in our community for the month of February 2010 decreased from 37 to 29. Specifically: auto thefts went from 1 to 1, burglary incidents from 10 to 4, car prowls from 2 to 2, and damaged property reports went from 19 to 18, this number includes damage to businesses, homes, cars and graffiti damage. We have shared only 6 of the 10 areas that are reported monthly. The full report may be viewed by going to www.slpd.com then click on Crime Maps and Statistics and choosing Community Council Report. The March report will be on line the first week of April.

I have included February’s running list of the Community Council Crime Report Totals so you can see how we are doing compared to the rest of the city:

1,2,3,6,6,7,7,7,7,8,23,27,29,31,37,37,49,58,66,72,77,88,101,110

ROSE PARK, Utah - Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old woman found dead at her home in Rose Park. Authorities Tuesday morning tracked down one of the men they say is responsible for the death of the woman identified as Stephanie Williams. Delfino Arriaga Luna was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated murder, firearm possession and armed robbery charges.

Police said they found Williams’ body inside her home Monday afternoon near 700 West and 300 North. Authorities have not said how long the woman was there, but a neighbor, William Lujan, said he heard shots coming from the home Sunday afternoon.

Lujan also tells FOX 13 News that he knew Williams since she was little and she recently started hanging out with a rough crowd.

Police are also searching for another suspect, 37-year-old, Benjamin Arriaga. He is considered armed and dangerous. Police believe he may be driving one of the following vehicles:

  • 1998 Silver Ford Countour LX sport, four door, Utah plate #SS7268
  • 1997 Black Volkswagen Jetta GL, 4 door, Utah plate #A890LM
  • 1997 White Ford Crown Victoria, Utah plate #B653EK

Those with information are urged to contact police.
